Fishing in Northern Norway – Frovåg on Senja

The fishing season at Frovåg runs from April to September, with different periods depending on the species you're targeting.

April to May

In spring, we primarily fish for large cod (skrei), halibut, and wolffish. This is a good period for those seeking a chance at truly massive fish and who want more tactical fishing in deeper areas.

June to August

Summer offers consistent and active fishing. Halibut hunt in shallower waters during this time, often resulting in good catch numbers. Cod remain stable, and large pollock move onto the shallow peaks, providing intense and fun fishing. The summer period is also good for redfish.

September

Autumn is a really good time to target large halibut. They move into shallower waters and become easier to catch with spin fishing on sandy bottoms and plateaus near the shore. This period is also excellent for plaice.

Species available all season in Senja

Monkfish, ling, pollack, haddock, wolffish, and tusk.

fish species and bait choice

At Frovåg on Senja, there's a chance to catch big halibut, cod, pollock, and wolfish – but the right bait makes a difference. Jigs and baitfish work best for halibut, while cod and pollock bite on pilkers, shads, and metal jigs. For wolfish, natural baits like mackerel and squid work excellently.

We at Outside Travels are happy to advise you on bait selection, equipment, and packing lists for your fishing trip to Northern Norway.
