Fish species and bait choices
Fishing in Rio Dorado and Rio Seco is exclusively focused on the Golden Dorado (Salminus brasiliensis), one of the world's most explosive freshwater predators. The Dorado is known for its aggressive strikes, powerful runs, and fierce behavior, making fly fishing both technically challenging and extremely exciting.
Bait selection primarily consists of streamers and larger flies that imitate baitfish. Effective patterns include Deceiver variants, Tarpon Snake, and Andino Deceivers in sizes 1/0–2/0. Colors such as black/red, black/yellow, purple, olive/white, and orange work very well in these waters. Additionally, large floating mouse patterns and grasshoppers can be highly effective under the right conditions.
Strong hooks and wire leaders are a must, as the Dorado has powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth. This type of fishing is about clear presentation, quick retrieves, and being prepared for brutal strikes – genuine jungle fishing for an iconic game fish.

Facts about the country
Facts about the country
Argentina is a large and diverse country in South America, known for its magnificent nature, strong food culture, and rich fishing waters. Here, everything from jungle and subtropical rivers in the north to the vast landscapes of Patagonia in the south can be found. The official language is Spanish, but English often works well in tourism and at fishing lodges. The currency is the Argentine peso, and the time zone is approximately four to five hours behind Sweden, depending on the season. Argentina is a popular and safe destination for anglers, especially on organized fishing trips where accommodation, transportation, and guiding are arranged. The combination of wild nature, passionate guides, and genuine hospitality makes the country an obvious destination for fishing trips outside of Europe.

Fishing is done on foot and by wading in clear jungle rivers. We actively fish with streamers and mouse patterns for aggressive dorados.

What is the weather and climate like?
Rio Dorado is located in northern Argentina and has a warm, subtropical climate. During the fishing season from March to November, days are usually warm with temperatures between approximately 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Evenings and mornings can be cooler, especially during spring and autumn.
Rain showers may occur, primarily during the summer months, but they are usually brief. The climate creates excellent conditions for active golden dorado fishing and a lush jungle landscape.
