In recent years, Kalmarsund has emerged as one of Sweden's most exciting destinations for perch fishing. Here, a varied fishing experience awaits in an archipelago setting with the chance of truly large perch, where fish over two kilos are not impossible.

We fish shallows, drop-offs, reed beds, and structures where the perch hunt baitfish. One moment it's about methodically fishing jigs over deeper areas, the next moment an active fishing with chatterbaits or hard lures might be what triggers the day's bigger fish.

The fishing is adapted day by day depending on weather, wind, temperature, and how the fish are moving at the moment. Together with experienced guides, the days are shaped according to the local conditions to provide the best possible chance for both quantity fishing and truly large perch.

This is a trip for you who appreciate modern perch fishing and want to develop as an angler while experiencing some of Sweden's most fish-rich waters.

  • Day 2

Day two is entirely dedicated to fishing from morning to evening before you return to the accommodation, where Fredrik prepares dinner. As a trained chef, he will take good care of you, and the evening ends with pleasant conversation and planning for the next day.

Fishing in Kalmarsund

Kalmarsund offers some of Sweden's most unique perch fishing. Here, the fish are often in very shallow water, sometimes only 50 cm deep and rarely deeper than 2 meters. This gives the perch perfect conditions and makes fishing both visual and incredibly fun.

There's great variety. You can fish classically with shad jigs, use special rigs, or switch to hard baits when you want to trigger reactions. The more you dare to experiment, the greater your chance of finding the really big ones.

Best fishing season for perch fishing in Kalmarsund

First of June – last of February.
This range provides fantastic opportunities to adapt your fishing to the season and the perch:

Summer:
Fast presentations with chatterbaits, jigs, and hard baits.

Autumn:
A broad range of fishing where shad jigs, drop shot, Ned rigs, jerkbaits, and similar methods perform really well.

The focus for most anglers is perch and pike, but the sound offers a wide and vibrant fish fauna all year round.

When should one go on a fishing trip to Kalmarsund?

You can go to Kalmarsund from June to February, and each period has its strengths. Summer offers fast-paced shallow fishing with aggressive perch. Autumn is when many of the largest fish are caught, perfect for those hunting really big perch. During winter, the fish gather in schools, and the fishing becomes slower but often very rewarding. Passport and Visa Information

If you are travelling to our destination from a country other than Sweden, you must always check what passport and visa regulations apply to your citizenship. Please contact us and we will help you find out what applies to your fishing trip and provide guidance so that everything goes smoothly.

Facts about the country

Kalmarsund is located on the Swedish east coast, between the mainland and Öland. The area belongs to Sweden and is characterized by coastal archipelago environments, shallow bays, and a rich marine ecosystem, making it perfect for sport fishing. It has a Nordic climate with warm summers, milder autumns, and cold winters. Sweden uses Swedish Kronor as its currency, and power outlets are of European standard. It is easy to travel here by car, train, and plane, depending on where you come from, and the area is known for its nature, tranquility, and strong populations of perch and pike.

Is there Wi-Fi available?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi in all rooms. You can easily stay in touch with family and friends, upload photos from the day's fishing, and plan your next trip directly from your accommodation.

How do you fish in Kalmar Sound?

In Kalmarsund, fishing is almost always done in shallow water, often at depths between 50 centimeters and two meters. This makes the fishing both visual and varied. The most common methods are jig fishing with a light jig head, drop shot, Ned rig, and various finesse methods when the fish are sluggish. During warmer periods, chatterbaits, hard baits, and fast-fished jigs work very well. In autumn and winter, jerkbaits and slow, bottom-near fishing are often key. With a local fishing guide like Fredrik Renz, your chances increase significantly as he knows how the fishing changes day by day and helps you choose the right method for that particular day.

What's the weather and climate like?

Kalmarsund has a coastal climate that varies greatly throughout the year. Summer offers warm days and stable weather suitable for fast and active fishing. Autumn is cooler and often clearer, causing large perch to hunt more intensely. During winter, it gets colder and fishing is slower, but the chance of catching really large fish is at its greatest. Wind direction and temperature play a big role in the sound, and a local fishing guide like Fredrik Renz will help you understand how the weather affects fish behavior on that particular day.
