Camp Halibut has quickly become a prominent name in sea fishing circles. The reason is simple. The staff and guides behind the camp catch more and bigger halibut than most other camps. Fishing at Camp Halibut

Fishing at Camp Halibut is of a very high standard and is entirely focused on top-class halibut, combined with excellent and varied sea fishing. The camp is located on Sørøya, an area known for its steep bottom structures, deep edges, and short distances to extremely productive fishing spots.

Halibut is the main attraction, and the area around the camp has repeatedly proven its capacity in terms of both quantity and size. Camp Halibut is internationally recognized for its results, and several of the largest rod-caught halibut in recent years have been landed by guests and guides here. In addition to halibut, there are very good stocks of skrei cod, as well as coalfish, redfish, plaice, and ling, providing varied fishing throughout the season.

Fishing is conducted from powerful and seaworthy Arronet boats, and the best spots are often reached within minutes from the camp. The sheltered location means that it is often possible to fish even when the weather affects the open sea.

What accommodation is available at Camp Halibut

During a fishing trip to Camp Halibut, you'll stay comfortably with a high level of service and very short distances to everything fishing-related. The camp offers several accommodation options suitable for both smaller parties and larger groups. All accommodations are less than 40 meters from the gutting room and approximately 50 meters from the sea.

The boats are about 75 meters from the main building and are accessed via a jetty approximately 50 meters long. It's easy to transport both fish and equipment all the way. At the jetty, there are gutting rooms, freezers, and drying rooms. The gutting room is spacious, fresh, and well-adapted for efficient handling of your catch.

The Apartments

The newly renovated apartments are approximately 34 sqm and very well-planned. They feature a sofa, TV, fully tiled bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, a dining table for four people, and a private sauna. Sleeping arrangements consist of two loft beds with space for a total of four people. A perfect option for those who want more privacy while still being close to the camp's facilities.

The Twin Rooms

The twin rooms are located in the main building and are fresh with a private toilet and shower with underfloor heating. Linens, towels, toiletries, and final cleaning are included. There are a total of six twin rooms, and up to twelve guests share large common areas of approximately 200 sqm with a kitchen, dining room, and living room.

This setup is highly appreciated by many guests as it's easy to connect with other like-minded anglers. Guides are often present in the common areas and are available for questions, tips, and fishing talk, which greatly contributes to good catches.

Wolffish House

Wolffish House is a newly renovated house of approximately 85 sqm with fantastic sea views. The house is located about 50 meters from the sea and 40 meters from the gutting room. It features four bedrooms, a large terrace that is partly glass-enclosed, and plenty of space for socializing. A very good option for groups who also want to enjoy their time on land. In 2025, the house will be adapted for up to eight people with two boats.

Redfish House

Redfish House is a charming red house, a new option from 2025, located approximately 75 meters from the camp. The house has five beds and offers classic Northern Norwegian character with fantastic views. The bedrooms and loft are smaller, but the kitchen, dining area, and living room are generous and well-adapted for socializing, tackle rigging, and relaxing after fishing.

Accommodation at Camp Halibut is well-thought-out, functional, and built for anglers who want smooth logistics, high comfort, and maximum time at sea.

Fishing Season Camp Halibut

March
March is entirely focused on skrei cod. Before spawning, the fish are at their heaviest, and the fishing in the fjord outside the camp is of very high quality. The weather can be challenging with cold, wind, and snow, but the reward is great. Skrei cod weighing 35–40 kilos are caught every year, and their culinary value is at its best during this period.

April
In early April, the cod spawn, followed by excellent fishing for hungry post-spawn fish. Large individuals weighing 20–25 kilos and more are frequently caught, and the fishing is often more action-packed than in March, with slightly more stable weather.

May to mid-June
Now the focus is on halibut. This is the period for those seeking truly large fish, with a chance of halibut over 200 cm and 100 kilos. Fewer bites, but the possibility of extreme size. Camp Halibut is known for its expertise in how to fish for the largest halibut.

Mid-June to August
Summer offers very diverse fishing. Halibut fishing is stable, cod and saithe are caught well, and redfish and plaice are excellent bonus species. The weather is usually calmer, and this is a perfect period for those who want to experience Norwegian sea fishing for the first time.

September to October
Autumn is one of the best times for halibut. The fish are found in shallower waters and can be caught using several methods such as jigging, baitfish, spin fishing, and fly fishing. The quantity of halibut caught is often very good, and cod, saithe, and plaice are still available.

fish species and bait choice

At Camp Halibut on Sørøya, you primarily fish for halibut and spawning cod, but you can also find pollock, redfish, plaice, and ling here.

Rubber jigs weighing 200–500 g are very effective for halibut, cod, and pollock. For more active fishing, 100–200 g jigs work well, especially in shallower waters. Bait fishing with baitfish is often used for larger flatfish. Jigs are excellent for cod and pollock, while rubber makk is a reliable choice for redfish. For plaice, simpler plaice rigs are used.
